Elizabeth was the only daughter of James VI of Scotland and I of England and Anne of Denmark. She was two years younger than Henry, Prince of Wales (1594–1612), depicted in another portrait by Peake in the Museum's collection (
Exploring the European colonization of the Atlantic coast of North America, & what colonial women could & could not do in those new European colonies. For the most part, 17C women did not take part in the formation of government. Of course, in the 17C, there were also Native American women along the coast.
