Sensory Board Gone MAD

So, several weeks ago someone sent me a picture of a single, plain piece of plywood that someone decked out in gadgets for their little baby to play with as a sensory board. I immediately wanted to make one for my wild child, but since I am 100% my father's daughter, I had to go and take it to the next level. (Think of Tim the Toolman and you have a clear picture of my father. "More power!! Arr arr arrrr...") And a mere... cough... six weeks later... it's finally done!!!

The Ball Ramp Board This was definitely my pride and joy. Inspired by the stupidly expensive Vilac House of Balls toy, I made my own version from PVC pipes and wooden dowels. I think I might actually enjoy playing with this one a lot more than Henry does...

The Texture Board I had a bunch of cheap, plastic frames that I filled with different textures- faux fur, foil, exposed cardboard, ribbons, cotton balls, carpet samples, secured rubber bands, and... of course... BUBBLEWRAP!

The Music Board What could a kid love more than lots and lots of loud things?? I particurly love the bamboo wind chime. I had a 50% off coupon for Michaels which I used to buy a bundle of bamboo sticks for about $5. Then I just cut them into increasing sizes, drilled some holes, and strung them up. The sound it makes it awesome, I tell ya.

The Abacus and Pulley Board Those are handmade abacuses, baby! (Is it abacuses? Or abaci..?) And the pulleys are made with hand knitted hackey sacks.

The Magnetic Chalkboard My second pride and joy. I had a sheet of galvanized metal that I cut and painted in chalkboard paint. Then I grabbed some trim from the scrap wood bin at Home Depot and made a frame.

The Clip and Shoe Lace Board I have visions that my child will now instantly learn to tie his own shoes.

The Gadget Board This would be the closest in resemblance to the original idea that was sent to me.

Henry immediately loved my activity center... I was so happy. My greatest fear was that I would finally get it all finished, and then Henry wouldn't even want to play with it. But he did! He was literally screaming to play with it. (Which would actually be a much bigger deal if he didn't already scream about everything...)
