Sapien is the first heart valve approved in the United States which doesn't require open heart surgery. In its collapsed form, it can be inserted via a catheter through a small incision in the groin and threaded through an artery into place in the heart where the steel mesh cylinder is expanded. via Christopher Weaver

Triggerfish by Sensimed is a smart contact lens embedded with a strain gauge and a wireless MEMS sensor for monitoring intraocular pressure in patients being monitored for glaucoma. (Currently a pressure check entails an office visit and is but a single point in time. In the old days, patients were admitted to the hospital for hourly pressure readings by the hapless resident on call.) It is under clinical trial. #Triggerfish #Sensimed #Glaucoma #Medical_Technology #Contact_Lens

This picture is from an article called “The Rescuing Hug”. The article details the first week of life of a set of twins. Each were in their respective incubators and one was not expected to live. A hospital nurse fought against the hospital rules and placed the babies in one incubator. When they were placed together, the healthier of the two, threw an arm over her sister in an endearing embrace. The smaller baby’s heart stabilized and temperature rose to normal. So beautiful, we NEED touch!
