You could probably spray paint each of the cones before assembling them on the cone. For instance, I think it would look cool if the pine cones with sparkly gold or silver.

These Stained Clothespin Snowflake Ornaments look really cool on the country tree in the link, but I think they could also be sprayed white and glittered and still look cool.
