Two views of a specimen of iris agate. The photo on the left was taken in normal light and displays the color of light reflected from the agate. The photo on the right shows the agate with backlighting. The backlighting reveals the diffraction grating or "iris" effect produced when light passes through the very fine banding of the agate. This specimen is a thin slice of Brazilian agate that measures about 25 mm high, 14 mm wide and 3 mm in thickness.

http://geology.about.com/od/rocks/ig/igrockindex/rocpictuff.htm Tuff is technically a sedimentary rock formed by the accumulation of volcanic ash plus pumice or scoria.
Pyroclastic Texture Igneous Rock Textures Rocks with pyroclastic ("PY-ro-CLAS-tic") texture are made of pieces of volcanic material created in an explosive eruption, like this welded tuff.

Vesicular Texture Igneous Rock Textures Rocks with vesicular ("ve-SIC-ular") texture are full of bubbles. It always indicates a volcanic rock, like this scoria.
http://geology.about.com/od/rocks/ig/igrockindex/rocpicscoria.htm Scoria, like pumice, is a lightweight extrusive rock, but scoria has large, distinct gas bubbles and a darker color.
Scoria, a type of lava rock, is excellent for earthbag building insulation. Scoria is also known as "cinders" or "pumice rock".
Scoria, also known as lava rock, has numerous properties which make it a great building material... house will stay comfortable year round in a very cold climate. This blog post recaps some of the most practical applications of scoria-filled earthbags.
