One of the few graphic novels that I own, this book by Shaun Tan (Amazing Author/illustrator) details the journey of an immigrant by taking the reader into a world where nothing is familiar. The world that is created is amazing, but the art that makes up the book is even more astounding. It is typical of all the work that Tan creates and is one book of many that can be for adults and children.

Short Story: The boat by Nam Lee. The title story directly relates to the author’s family experience of escaping Vietnam in the seventies. Others are set in a world of drug lords and violence in Colombia, the countryside beyond Hiroshima just before the atomic bomb hits, and a couple are in modern day New York. Halflead Bay is set in a seaside town as a teenage boy deals with his mother slowly dying. This is a very assured collection of stories, each very much worth getting your teeth into.
