So when people ask, you nod and discuss it like you've actually read it! Or, see the movie and nod wisely when people say it is nothing like the book!

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. This is only a Book Worth Reading if you are interested in a well-written story for teenagers. Snappy dialogue, appealing characters, young love, heartbreak, drama, etc. . . . I can see myself loving this book fifty years ago, but I've grown up, and I'm more critical of contrived smaltzy stories with unlikely plot lines.
The Fault in Our Stars novel - By John Green. Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

"Elizabeth Winthrop Chanler" by John Singer Sargent (1893) at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington DC - From the curators' comments: "This portrait shows a beautiful, well-bred woman who has learned to be strong. When Elizabeth was still a girl, her mother died, leaving her to help care for seven younger brothers and sisters. Sargent painted her while she was in London for a brother's wedding, and the artist composed the portrait as if to suggest a turmoil of emotions in his sitter."

The Phantom of the Opera (Modern Library Classics) by Gaston Leroux
After the breathtaking debut of Christine Daaé, the whispers of an Opera ghost seem to become reality as the young singer vanishes. As the Phantom strikes again and again, targeting foes from a jealous diva to a romantic rival, Leroux spins a thriller of obsession and violence with, at its center, a tormented murderer who awakens our deepest fears and sympathies.

"The Name Of The Rose" - #UmbertoEco
Umberto Eco's "The Name of the Rose" is a medieval times murder mystery novel which was also adapted into a very good movie. I'm sure once you start the book you will try hard to put it aside but of course don't lick your fingers when you turn the pages ;)

The Castle / Franz Kafka
Worth Reading, Book Worth, Franz Kafka, Book Jackets, Kafka Castles
Kafka’s castle wasn’t supposed to be all that remained from a time long gone, and wasn’t the type of place you’d necessarily want to visit. Kafka’s castle represented bureaucracy and alienation, its occupants looking down on the people in the village, closing off what’s inside to basically everybody. Of course, Kafka died before finishing up the book, so for all we know he intended to spruce things up in the final edit.

Blood Meridian: Or the Evening Redness in the West: Cormac McCarthy - April 2014 book club book.
Blood Meridian, Or, The Evening Redness in the West by Cormac McCarthy: An epic novel of the violence and depravity that attended America's westward expansion, Blood Meridian brilliantly subverts the conventions of the Western novel and the mythology of the wild west. #ATXlibrary
The Silmarillion / J.R.R. Tolkien
Worth Reading, Book Worth, J R R, Bookish Things, Rings, Favorite Book, Middle Earth, Silmarillion Prelord, Jrr Tolkien
This is one of my favorite books. It's arguably dense and boring, but the world is beautiful and the historical narrative of his fantasy seems so thorough that it could be -scratch that- SHOULD be real.
Those interested in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth should not be without this grand volume that tells the tragic tale of the struggle for control of the Silmarils, a struggle that would determine the history of the world long before the War of the Ring.
