The following chart explains why children misbehave and how teachers or other adults should approach each child based on why they are exhibiting the behavior: Positive Discipline emphasizes that effective discipline allows teachers to recognize the reasons why children do what they do rather than merely attempting to change the behavior. With this system, teachers are empowered to dig deeper and help students get to the root of their problems versus just take care of them on the surface.

This is a close-up. This is the finished product of an assignment I did with first graders. They researched a winter animal using pebble go. They filled out a graphic organizer and then typed those words onto a word document. They then copied those words into makes a word cloud into almost any shape.

An Apple For The Teacher: Stickers - I like this idea. Instead of putting stickers on students give them a small notebook for them to collect their stickers. Once they have reached a certain amount they are able to spent their sticks and all I have to do is cross out the ones they used. I can see creating a rewards system around this

Letter Home Journals: I did this for years with my's a great way to promote writing, plus it keeps parents involved. Each Friday kids write a note home about their week, parents write a short note back, then the teacher chooses 5-6 journals each week and respond to the student's note as well. It's amazing what you learn in those short notes!
