Explore a Civil War Era fort, used to help keep Wilmington's port open and safe. Located at the tip of the peninsula, it protected a large area of dunes, dangerous shoals and marshland. Now it is home to the remains of the earthworks of the fort, as well as recreational off road vehicle access and hiking trails. Visit the old WWII bunker inhabited by the Fort Fisher Hermit and stand where he once lived out his life off the land.
