Master Gardeners are involved in many different projects through out Sonoma County. Our volunteer staff promotes successful gardening experiences using sustainable gardening practices by providing research based information from the University of California and other academic or government institutions.

Master Gardeners
Educational Seminars and Workshops are given regularly by Master Gardeners though out the year at various county libraries and garden clubs. The seminars provide information on many subjects from growing vegetables to creating low water use gardens. Check the website for the upcoming seminars and locations.

Master Gardeners staff Information Desks in Santa Rosa and in Sonoma, referred to as the 'Help Desk'. Volunteers provide gardening information and tips to home gardeners using phone lines, email, and drop ins at the UCCE office. Go the website for the hours and location.

Composting Project is a partnership with the Sonoma County Waste Management Agency to educate the home gardener about composting. At workshops throughout the county, Master Gardeners show gardeners how to compost and use the material in their gardens. In addition, Master Gardeners give presentations in local schools to teach children about worm composting.

Petaluma Demonstration Garden. Master Gardeners created a garden in front of the public library for children to grow vegetables. The garden also features fruit trees, drought tolerant and native shrubs that are low maintenance and a living reference for educating the public.

Bloomin Backyards is a biannual garden tour, plant sale and craft sale fundraiser to support the Master Gardener programs in Sonoma County. The tour features gardens of local Master Gardeners, educational information desks and volunteers to answer questions. The plants at the sale are propagated by the Master Gardeners from source material in the Master Gardener's own gardens, in 2012, over 3,000 plants were sold. The craft sale features lots of whimsical items for home and garden.

Quarryhill Botanical Garden located in the Sonoma Valley above Glen Ellen. Master Gardener and other volunteers lead tours for school children through this Asian woodland garden. Quarryhill contains one of the largest collections of scientifically documented, wild-source Asian plants in North America and Europe--approximately 22,000 plants, including 1250 individual species.

Harvest for the Hungry is a volunteer staffed community garden that donates produce grown to local service agencies. The garden also hosts free lectures on gardening to public, located at 1717 Yulupa Ave. Santa Rosa.

Jail Industries Demonstration Garden at 2254 Ordinance Rd near Airport Blvd. in Santa Rosa was designed by MGs. The garden is open to the public and display CA Natives and Mediterranean plants. The Jail Industries program is a partnership between the Sonoma Co. Sheriff's Dept. and the Sonoma Co. Office of Education. The purpose is to provide rehabilitation and training for eligible inmates at the nursery.

Farmers' Markets - Sonoma County. Master Gardener provide gardening advice at our information desks at over 12 Farmer Market sites through Sonoma County during the summer months.

Sonoma Garden Park - located at 19990 East Seventh Street Sonoma is an educational campus of the Sonoma Ecology Center. The staff and volunteers teach gardening to local children.
