#1 learning disability for children in the US yet classroom strategies are rarely talked about.
It is very important to understand how Dyslexia impacts so many aspects of learning. Most of the problems relate to the way students learn in a traditional classroom, with typical schoolwork. When we realize that people with Dyslexia are visual thinkers who learn in a unique way we can help them overcame many of the struggles! Try a therapy that focuses on the gifts of dyslexic students to teach reading and writing! www.DyslexiaGames.com

Omggg.... Thank you to whoever wrote this...I had Such a hard time in school growing up an still do even as an adult!!
I am dyslexic and I have a dyslexic child. Time is absolutely the best thing you can give a dyslexic.
Why can't people put themselves in other people's shoes? I read an interesting blog post about how the Red Sox won the World Series this year by setting the bar high but putting lots of cushions underneath. When will teachers give dyslexic students cushions?
Most dyslexic people have a brain capacity and capability that is beyond amazing. Find the gift.
Just because you're dyslexic doesn't mean you're not intelligent. You're IQ is not linked to your dyslexia. A lot of successful people are dyslexic from writers, actors,&even mathematicians. You may see dyslexia as a set back, but it's not.It just means you see things differently from others. Even dyslexic people don't see the same. It's a good thing really. It seems dyslexic people are some of the sweetest souls. And don't ever pick on someone for being dyslexic. If you do then it just means you know how intelligent they really are and you're intimidated by that
find strength. take the time you need.

I love this, as the parent of a child with an LD I wish the teachers would think about that, 9 years in school and still not making progress is not acceptable!! Teach the way they learn. Amen!!!
As an instructor, I live by this. I was asked about my philosophy at a recent interview for a school, so I spoke this point. The teacher in the room scoffed when I said this. Which leads me to another point: the tree that does not bend, breaks.
The best teachers are the ones who understand that each child is different, who understand that diversity in thought and understanding is a blessing to all involved.
Children are born capable of learning... I wish some teachers would follow this train of thought!
The root of every good teaching philosophy. Good for parents to remember just as much as teachers!
AGGHHHHH! This needs to be posted in EVERY school teacher lounge!!!

Whisper phone, made of PVC pipe and patterned duct tape. Another great idea from this site: make a baggie quilt out of gallon or sandwich size baggies and strategically placed duct tape. Could be used for displaying students work (big bags) or a variety of centers, like Boggle! :) Can punch holes in top and hang from Command hooks! Looks like a fun, easy project too.

Why Can’t My Child Spell? by David Morgan - "Bright children who seem to cope with reading but spell badly are almost always visual readers. They can recognize the shape of common words from memory, but fail to decipher others." The key to learning to spell is to teach Auditory reading and merge the two styles.

Great poster for my class! This will help students who don't feel things are being doing fairly. MarLee Carr
Student, Special Education, Classroom Quote, Fair Quote, School Quote, Kid, Think Poster
Dr. Bruno always told us to explain it this way to kids when they complain about things not being fair.
This is special education...Some students need more than others to succeed. This is what you say when people say it isn't fair that special education students get extra stuff. I actually had a gen ed teacher say it wasn't fair that a special ed student got more time on an assignment. The student probably thinks it's not fair that he has a learning disability.
someone said this is good for students. . .but i think it's also important for teachers to hear when they say are hesitant to try an intervention because "it's not fair for the other kids."
As one of four kids this was one of the best lessons I learned in grad school. A teacher quoted it!
