I've seen quite a few texted chairs lately, this one in Dumfries & Galloway, the first one I saw was in Dubai. I love the phrases, the poetry, the catchphrases; sometimes text is from a particular writer, sometimes a mix of quotes... but it just works
great idea for a book lover! my home is my reading room. My world is my reading room!
mashing up IKEA furniture seems to be "a thing" in many schools now. The dialogue with students is helpful, the results are ingenious and the costs are very low. This bunk bed remodelled as an early years play kitchen in Ciudalcampo, Madrid, Spain is a great example!
Saw this go past on Twitter - lo the increasingly thoughtful, but still playful, marking on playgrounds these days - robot tracks, number puzzles, history lines... so much
A slide down from the school library? Well of course it's playful, but you only use it after actually using the library, so numbers are up! More importantly it helps cement the library as a very special place in the school. Cheap to fit, it literally goes straight out of what was a window. It can be closed too (!).
So many examples of this, it's hard to pick one - in short, hanging umbrellas from the learning space ceiling - with fibreglass "rock wool) (usually used for roof insulation and v cheap) laid inside them does an amazing job at reducing ambient sound. Each child brings and decorates an old umbrella. So simple.
Idea Box, located just inside the Oak Park Library's Main Library entrance adds a degree of theatre to it's makerspace - SO many MakerSpaces take the challenge of making the space fit for use as a first Maker Project. furniture, signs, et al.
Chelmsford maker Space having started in a hut has become particularly adept at using whatever space is available - indoors and outside! In the end desk surface, storage, places to present and work together are key.
MakerSpace furniture is a challenge - many make their own (see other pins here) but some modern science lab equipment is very durable, can be reconfigured easily, doesn't stain etc. This example from Dubai
Right in the centre of Scotland's Dumfries are plenty of empty retail spaces - shopping is moving on-line. They make great maker Spaces - in the heart of the community, open space, easy access - not that here even the furniture is laser cut and Maker made. I was there very early on - seeing faces outside pressed against the glass wanting to have a go was hugely encouraging
