COMMAND AND CONTROL: Nuclear Weapons, The Damascus Accident, and the Illusion of Safety, by Eric Schlosser. In September of 1980 an explosion at a facility in Damascus, Ark., caused a nuclear warhead to be ejected from its silo. Though the missile didn't explode, the incident is one of the more dramatic near-disasters recounted in this new book by the author of "Fast Food Nation." Schlosser sheds light on the management -- and mismanagement -- of America's nuclear arsenal during the Cold War.

Man's Search For Meaning: the Classic Tribute to Hope from the Holocaust by Viktor E. Frankl.Allport. Dr. Frankl offers an account of his life amid the horrors of the Nazi death camps, chronicling the harrowing experience that led to the discovery of his theory of logotherapy.
Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor Frankl - This one is really worth reading
Man's Search For Meaning: The classic tribute to hope from the Holocaust: Viktor E Frankl Viktor Frankl was uniquely able to observe the way that both he and others in Auschwitz coped with the experience. He noticed that it was the men who comforted others and who gave away their last piece of bread who survived the longest. The sort of person the concentration camp prisoner became was the result of an inner decision

Lots of interesting points. I definitely agree with his major focus that we need to focus on governing for the majority. Readability is rough, considering it was a speech -- specifically a filibuster -- that was intended to be repetitious and point-making.

"It was the Blackhawk Down project that marked the most successful integration of the long-form newspaper journalism and the new possibilities of digital content production Bowden remembered, “We had some discussions about presenting the story at the same time on the papers web site. At that time it meant we would just display the text of the story each day online, along with the rest of the papers offerings”

Author Frank McCourt's own childhood in his own voice, a desperate, Irish Catholic, impoverished childhood. You are living in their apartment, in their neighboorhood, in Brooklyn, through this book. Children can be the toughest survivors of situation - McCourt neither complains or accuses but rather forgives and laughs. It also reminds you that people really do not change.
This book will tear your heart out and stomp on it. Oh, my heart aches still when I think of this child.

Investigating the global financial meltdown as the first systemic crisis of the neoliberal stage of capitalism, this analysis argues that—far from having ended—the crisis has ushered in a period of worldwide economic and political turbulence. In developing an account of the crisis as rooted in fundamental features of capitalism, this study challenges the view that capitalism's source lies in financial deregulation, and highlights the emergence of new patterns of world inequality and new cente...
