Worth Reading, True Things, Book Worth, Anna Quindlen, Favorite Book, Bestselling Author, Great Book, Novels, Families
A favorite book by a favorite author...
One True Thing by Anna Quindlen. A great interesting read by a fantastic author. I loved the way it explored family relationships and mostly the role of women, their quiet strength and the way they subtly move the world in different ways.
A mother.A daughter.A shattering choice. From Anna Quindlen, bestselling author of Black and Blue, comes a novel of life, love and everyday acts of mercy.
Another great book from Anna Quindlen
One of the most beautifully written books I've ever read.
Zoos Animal, Worth Reading, Book Club, Bengal Tigers, Book Worth, Yann Martell, The Reader, Life Of Pi, Favorite Book
Life of Pi. JDR Note: Read for book club/ movie outing. The story of an Indian boy trapped in a lifeboat for 7 months with a Bengal tiger after their ship sinks. Complicated story full of symbols and themes that leaves you with much to consider. Really good book and angry at myself for not reading it years ago.
Pretty entertaining. Worth reading.
Life of Pi is one of my all-time favorite books. Drawing from religious philosophy, survival narratives such as Adrift by Steven Callahan, and (famously) Max and the Cats by Moacyr Scliar, it is an amazingly creative and complete work of its own. It’s an adventure novel, an allegory, an existential quest. Surreal, haunting, wrenching. Magical.
Life of Pi by Yann Martel. The son of a zookeeper, Pi Patel has an encyclopedic knowledge of animal behavior and a fervent love of stories. When Pi is sixteen, his family emigrates from India to North America aboard a Japanese cargo ship, along with their zoo animals bound for new homes. The ship sinks. Pi finds himself alone in a lifeboat, his only companions a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and Richard Parker, a 450-pound Bengal tiger.
Life of Pi: Pi is left on a lifeboat with animal companions, including a 450 lb. Bengal tiger. Here is another book that never gets old: Martel's writing draws the reader into Pi's reality and is simply sublime. For me, the book's main questions have to deal with absolute truth.
An awesome book about what love looks like -- between husband and wife, parents and children, pastor and parishioners, and more.

Book Club Selection #1- April 2012 Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter: A Novel by Tom Franklin
I have an unrepentant fluff-loving side which I tend to indulge with mysteries. I'll read virtually any mystery, tho' that doesn't necessarily mean I'll like it. This one, though, is more than just a cut above. It's good. It's really good. It's worth reading! Beautifully subtle and tight writing illustrates the complexities of small town life in the south. Racial tension and the fear of anyone who doesn't fit in make a fine and carefully wrought story. Totally worth reading!

One of my favorite movies. Definitely worth watching.
Quality Time, Film, Hayden Christensen, Great Movie, Life, House 2001, Kevin Kline, Favorite Movie, Favourite Movie
LIFE AS A HOUSE, 2001 this was my favorite movie for quite a while <3
Life as a House (2001) When a man is diagnosed with terminal cancer, he takes custody of his misanthropic teenage son, for whom quality time means getting high, engaging in small-time prostitution, and avoiding his father. (Great movie)
Life as a House (2001): In this film, Kevin Kline's character George Monroe is diagnosed with terminal cancer. He takes custody of his son, Sam (a rebellious, suicidal, pill-popping teenager played by Hayden Christensen) and tries to connect with him before he dies.
Book and movie are a favorite.
