Carving and Chipping Away at Paint by Karin Waskiewicz Photo
"Landscape in flight", Acrylic on panel, 24x36: Artist Karin Waskiewicz has patience. First, she pours layers and layers and layers of paint on top of one another. Then, she lets them dry. After that, a totally new process begins as she carves, sands and cuts away layers to reveal the layers below. Topographic-like forms and craters begin to emerge, creating a landscape of colorful pockets like those only seen in dreams.

When you trespass, the reason you feel you are being watched is because you are. The fear is real. When you steal, the dread that comes over you is neither guilt nor paranoia, but the cold certitude of fate. The curse is real. When you die, know that your life was but a flash upon the face of the deep in the mind of your judge. We are real. And we are arisen. — Ankh-Nephris, the Hand of Wisdom

Shane Wolf 'Soumission' Even though this epic painting might be hard do understand I do think that it is very much accessible to a wide range of audience. I've always loved pictures that tell a story. The artist has painted the figure in a way where his thigh, shoulder and knee nearly touch the sides of the canvas which makes it look like the person is very cramped and uncomfortable. Also there is evident movement in this picture, directed along the scratched line.

Rothko, I've seen this painting. There was an entire room of them at the Tate. He originally painted them for a restaurant but they ended up being too dark and heavy. So now they live in one of the most famous modern art museums in the world...

Michal Karcz, a young Polish photographer, couldn’t decide between painting and photography until he discovered the possibilities of digital photography. Firstly passionate about painting, Michal realized it was too limited for him to fully express his visions, so he turned to photography. Unfortunately, the ordinary dark room techniques didn’t allow him to fully realize his potential either. Website: michalkarcz.com
