Dame Daphne du Maurier, Lady Browning DBE (/ˈdæfni duː ˈmɒri.eɪ/; 13 May 1907 – 19 April 1989) was an English author and playwright. Many of her works have been adapted into films, including the novels Rebecca (the film adaptation of which won the Best Picture Oscar in 1941) and Jamaica Inn and the short stories The Birds and Don't Look Now.

"The second Mrs. Maxim de Winter finds it difficult and frightening to live in the shadow of her predecessor, a situation that is exacerbated by her husband's moodiness, and the presence of sinister housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers."

    Great book ;)

Dark Places: I wanted to read Gillian Flynn's Dark Places because I loved Gone Girl so much — and while Dark Places is so much darker (seriously; I worried I'd have nightmares), I also couldn't put it down. It's a little disturbing, but for anyone who loves a good murder mystery, it's a page-turner. — Shannon Vestal, TV and movies editor and reporter
