Sandy Tolan "The Lemon Tree". Israel and its history was always of great interest to me, I can’t remember how long, I grew up with it. I have visited this very historical and tormented country and therefore couldn’t help but read this book.I had been to Jaffa and therefore could picture a lot of the descriptions in the book. The author describes every different ethnic people living in Israel and has a deep understanding for their problems.

Sandy Tolan talks about his book The Lemon Tree: An Arab, a Jew and the Heart of the Middle East. The account grew out of a 1998 NPR documentary in which Tolan reported on a friendship between a Palestinian man and an Israeli woman that served as an example of the region's fragile history.

Ray Bradbury quote- I need this as a poster
"There are two perfumes to a book. If a book is nw, it smells great. If a book is old, it smells even better! It smells like Ancient Egypt. A book has got to smell. You have to hold it in your hands and pray to it. You put it in your pocket and walk with it. And it stays with you forever." Ray Bradbury
Quoted. Ray Bradbury, The Art of Fiction No. 203, Interviewed by Sam Weller. From The Paris Review. #books LOVE that old book smell - always have :)
LOVE a new book and LOVE an old book even more! <3

Great book about the power of friendship. Bay Area author.
My husband read this book and said it was really good. When I asked if I would like it he said yes, but, there's parts that I may have trouble with - he was right. We saw the movie and still had trouble with that one part. Regardless, very good book and movie. any book would be an ideal treasure for a book lover like me

The Remains of the Day [Unabridged] [Paperback] Kazuo Ishiguro (Author) Amazon.com Review The novel's narrator, Stevens, is a perfect English butler who tries to give his narrow existence form and meaning through the self-effacing, almost mystical practice of his profession. In a career that spans the second World War, Stevens is oblivious of the real life that goes on around him -- oblivious, for instance, of the fact that his aristocrat employer is a Nazi sympathizer. Still, there are even larger matters at stake in this heartbreaking, pitch-perfect novel -- namely, Stevens' own ability to allow some bit of life-affirming love into his tightly repressed existence.
The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro, such a great book especially for Downton Abbey viewers

30 COOLEST ALTERNATIVE BOOK COVERS Books are the window into our own imaginations. A great read can create its own world within our minds, so it seems tremendously unfair that there should only be one cover image to represent it, which may not correlate with your experience. Well these good people have refused to accept that and spent their own time and effort creating alternative and, in many cases, superior, covers for a range of classics.

Enjoying this book with my Stanford Alumni book club
Crime and Punishment I had to read this for summer reading this year, and, when I found out, I was, um, less than thrilled. (My previous attempts at reading Russian lit have ended disastrously.) BUT this has probably become the GREATEST book I have ever read! I haven't been able to put it down! (Click through for synopsis. If you do read it, get the Pevear and Volokhonsky translation. It retains the book's original feel and color.)
