In Greek Mythology, Sinope was one of the daughters of Asopus and thought to be an eponym of the city Sinope on the Black Sea. One of her legends says Sinope was abducted to the site by Zeus, who, in his passion, swore to fulfil her dearest wish. Sinope declared she wished to remain a virgin. Sinope later tricked Apollo and the river Halys in the same fashion and remained a virgin all her life. Smart move!

Millicent in Harper's Bazaar 1940's - Mary Millicent Abigail Rogers (1902-1953), better known as Millicent Rogers, was a socialite, fashion icon, & art collector. She was the granddaughter of Standard Oil tycoon Henry Huttleston Rogers, & an heiress to his wealth. Rogers is notable for having been an early supporter & enthusiast of Southwestern-style art & jewelry. Later in life, she became an activist, & was among the first celebrities to champion the cause of Native American civil rights.
Millicent Rogers..she made Southwestern jewelry chic
In 1943, Rogers became a client of Charles James. In this photo for Harper's Bazaar, she wears a James blouse with a bevy of Native American bangles. During the Second World War, she owned Claremont Manor, a gracious 18th-century mansion in Virginia’s Tidewater country, only 170 miles from Washington, D.C., where she worked for the Medical and Surgical Relief Committee, and used her tremendous wealth to smuggle Jewish acquaintances out of Europe.
December 11, 1989.- Louise Emma Augusta Dahl (November 19, 1895 December 11, 1989) was a noted American photographer. She is known primarily for her work for Harper's Bazaar, in association with fashion editor Diana Vreeland. This undated image provided by the Millicent Rogers Museum shows Rogers, the Standard Oil heiress, posing for a photograph. Rogers is one of the women being recognized as part of a yearlong celebration in Taos, N.M., called the Remarkable Women of Taos.

The Rudi Gernreich label is making a return to fashion in 2014 according to stylesight.com. Interest in fashion of the '60s and an art exhibit in L.A. are thought to have sparked renewed interest in the designer. Look for geometric patterns and silhouettes in 2014.
