March 12, 1957: One of the most beloved children's books,“The Cat in the Hat” by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel), is published. The book was written in response to an article that called existing kid's books boring. Houghton, Mifflin, & Random House approached Geisel with an offer: Write a new children's primer using a list of 250 vocabulary words that would also hold a kid's interest. Less than a year later “The Cat in the Hat” was finished. - “It is fun to have fun, But you have to know how.”
