Constructivism and Concrete Art

The International Faction of Constructivism was organized in 1922 by Van Doesburg, Richter & El Lissitzky, emphasizing their opposition to subjectivity. It was concrete, free of symbolical association with reality, since lines & colors are concrete by themselves. It emphasized geometric abstract art 'constructed’ from autonomous visual elements & characterized by precision, impersonality, clear formal order, & simplicity.A major leader was Max Bill. It was influenced by Bauhaus & De Stijl.
