Hexagon Tutorial ~ Part Four
Finishing Tips Now that you've been busy making hexagons, no doubt you have a wonderful assortment and want to begin sewing them together. This was a delightful task for me as it was so very satisfying to play with them. I loved choosing the fabrics I wanted to sew together as I began to see how the quilt would look. Because hexagons are so perfect and precise, they go together like a dream! Do as I say, not as I do!! Because I was designing the quilt as I was sewing, the photos will show…
W.i.P. Wednesday: Getaway
I went on a girls' getaway weekend to NYC last weekend, a perfect time to make some progress on my neglected La Passacaglia. Not only did I get lots done but sewing keeps me from annoying Aimee with my backseat driving;-) I kicked things off with this ring of Tula Pink tigers... and then moved on to another round of stars. I also finished up the flowers ring of this large cog. This one was a lesson in what NOT to do... Visually it made sense to assemble these as flowers but that meant having…

Village Quilt Along Update | A Quilting Life

Anna Meets Tula - Full View
(More Photos here - www.flickr.com/photos/27153465@N07/sets/72157639993449834/ ) My favorite project to date - a wonderful, challenging, quirky pattern from the amazing @TulaPink! I faithfully followed @SewSweetness' Sew Along... until I got a job (after a move). I was so afraid that "going back to school" was going to cause me to be a Tula Pink Drop-out, but thank heavens for long school holidays! I am so happy to have this quilt top completed, but the minute I sewed on that last border, I…
Tula Pink's City Sampler Quilt top FINISHED!!!
Well after much sewing I managed to finish my City Sampler quilt top in time to link up with Sew Sweetness! Not on purpose either! All my crazy ridiculous prints in one quilt. I chose to sew them on point with black and without the sashing. I like it much better this way. There are 98 blocks shown here. The other 2 will be used on the back somehow. Hope you love it as much I do! My mom (she's funny) said "each block really is pretty ugly by itself." Haha...so true but when they're all…
Tula Pink - City Sampler: 100 Modern Quilt Blocks
It is finally finished!!! I started this quilt back in May 2013 and finally in September 2014 it is finished. The book is one of Tula Pink's I used only my scraps for these quilt blocks, following the suggested color ways so I could use the layout on the front cover. I worked pretty hard the first couple of months and then it got pushed aside. The beginning of summer, I really started working hard on the blocks. May to Mid-June, I would make one block everytime I went into my sewing room…
Improv quilt
Craftsy.com | Express Your Creativity!
Do you shy away from sewing curved quilt blocks? A good way to practice quilting curves is with improvisational or wonky curved quilt blocks. These blocks are not only quick and fun to sew, but they are very forgiving and they'll let you practice joining fabric along a curve without the need to be…
piecing the improv together
On Saturday, it was raining. Not that hard but on and off, but enough that I could easily let the thought of gardening go. And my knee stopped hurting, at least mostly, it was like suddenly feeling 10 years younger, not having that huge pain every time I stood up. So I set about piecing my maximalist Bee Sewcial blocks together. I worked in lumps and chunks - from where they were last time I shared them. The trickiest part was to piece in the curvy piano keys. I used some pins to mark the…

Things to Consider When Shopping for African Prints (Ankara) or Buying Headwraps — AFROTHREADS | Authentic African Fabrics & more
Imitation African prints are more common than you think… And they have eradicated thousands of jobs on the continent. In the 1990’s, Ghana boasted 13 textile factories, which employed approximately 30,000 people . Fast forward to today—only 3,000 employees remain across 3 factories. Similar

Merry Christmas Eve!
Merry Christmas Eve! I hope you are/were able to enjoy some lovely time with family! I finished a few mini mats in the past few days. I love having projects to bind...it helps me to sit still for a few minutes, which is especially important this time of year. (If my hands aren't busy, I can't sit!) I wasn't planning on making this mini, but I came across the fabric combo and I thought it was too good to pass up! I love these fabrics together and simple is good! As are red polka dots. :) It…
