Pietà (Woman Holding Her Dead Child), bronze, by Käthe Kollwitz. This is a smaller version of the sculpture installed in Neue Wache in Berlin following German reunification. The Neue Wache is a neo classical guard house and since 1993 a national memorial to the victims of war and tyranny. it is a huge empty space with the sculpture alone in the center. High above it is an oculus allowing rain and snow to fall on the pietà.
