Special Education-My class

This is my 6th year teaching at Mary Grett Transition Center. I teach Job Readiness. These photos are actual photos of tasks that I have recreated from ideas I've seen, and some that I came up with myself. I try and created tasks that are real life tasks.

I don't have this area anymore, but wanted to share it. This use to be my HEB (Grocery Store) and my Dollar Tree and Show Carnival area. Students would stock the shelf in the HEB area or shop using a grocery list. Practice stocking in the Dollar Tree and match shoes and place in boxes in the carnival area. All pre vocational skills.

My garden center. I copied images of different types of vegetables found in the produce section of the grocery store. Students have to fill the produce bins with matching veggies. I taped one to the back so they know what section that veggie belongs in. You can extend this by adding prices for students with a higher cognitive level and give them a budget to shop for produce. - Bernice

Office skills. I took a table top file box, used plain colored paper and on the tabs I placed a small cut out of each color. This skills is used for basic filing skills. Students then file by color. They place the correct colored paper behind the matching tab. - Bernice

This is in my home area. It's a cabinet my paraprofessional found. In this area students practice setting up a closet. This self help task lets them practice hanging clothes, sort and put socks in the drawers, the other drawer has shorts and tees. It also has a place for shoes. I took a picture of how it should look when complete. I believe on hands on tasks, they love it. Bernice
