The Respite: A Centre for Grief & Hope

In an atmosphere of dignity and respect for the grief process, The Respite helps people, regardless of socio-economic status, who have suffered a significant loss in any form to reclaim a healthy and productive life. We provide a safe haven, a supportive community, and take an approach that offers a variety of healing modalities to empower individuals and families. Our vision is to shift how grief is viewed in the world - moving from shame and isolation to unveiling grief’s transformative gifts

A phenomenal book called “Just One Little Thing.” It’s about one of those life changing groundless moments. Devastated by the unexpected death of her son, the author writes about what goodness still remained in her life in the hopes of finding just one little thing to make it through the day. Gratitude changed everything.

Elizabeth Berrien - co-founder of The Respite. By the age of 27, Elizabeth had already experienced the loss of a child and life as a war widow. These two tragic losses led her to create a space for others who are coping with grief and loss in their lives. The Respite provides services for people who are coping with any type of loss, including death, loss of a job, loss of a home, and loss of income just to name a few. Elizabeth leads the group Soul Widows for young widows age 60 and under.

We are so excited to have our first published book that leads people through the “ABC’s” of understanding grief. Although each mourner’s grief is unique, there exists a universality of the feelings and emotions experienced. We will also soon be releasing our 7 Step Model of Heart-Centered Grief series!
