Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling unveils the story behind the art's making, a story rife with all the drama of a modern-day soap opera. Only $3.97 from Thrift Books.

Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling. I wish I had read this before I went to see the Sistene Chapel. It brought the whole story to life.
In 1508, despite strong advice to the contrary, the powerful Pope Julius II commissioned Michelangelo to paint the ceiling of the newly restored Sistine Chapel. With little experience as a painter (though famed for his sculpture David), Michelangelo was reluctant to begin the massive project. Great, in depth look at the personal life of an absolute genius!
Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling by Ross King. A fantastic book related to Architecture, Art, and History.

David Baldacci, great summer read!
Pretty good beach reading (even though the waves were WAY too big for me to do any reading at the beach - kept my eyes counting heads at all times). But I could read when I was off duty on the balcony. Family gone awry pulling back together story - is there a movie based on this book maybe?

The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell, the author of Cloud Atlas. "Every page is overfull with language, events, and characters, exuberantly saturated in the details of the time and the place but told from a knowing and undeniably modern perspective. It's a story that seems to contain a thousand worlds in one."
