Wild Quaker Parrots (aka Monk parakeets) at Brooklyn Bird Feeder: In 1967-68, over 60,000 Monk parrots were shipped to NYC from Argentina for pet stores. One shipment was accidently released at JFK Airport. The birds survived in parklands nearby, then gradually moved to Brooklyn. Today, they’re also in NJ, CT, RI and beyond.
