Stray Dog (野良犬/ Nora Inu, 1949)  by Kurosawa Akira.  A film noir set in a heatwave striken post-war Tokyo. Rookie detective's (Mifune) colt pistol is stolen during the scorching bus ride. There were seven rounds in the gun,  so he needs to catch up with the culprit fast, before all of them are used in the crimes. Inside look into the anatomy of crime, it feels very Dostoyevsky influenced. As usual with Kurosawa's classics, it's a photographer's dream of a movie.
