The miracle of the Holy Fire! Each year on Orthodox Holy Saturday, the Patriarch of Jerusalem enters the altar of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and "prays with tears for the sins of the people done in ignorance, raiding his hands on high, doing this three times; those around him do the same thing." A flame ignites in a niche by God's will. The Patriarch lights a candle from it, and the Deacons light additional candles from the Patriarchs. The fire is passed to all. Christ is Risen!

In Russia, and among the Russian Orthodox, Palm Sunday is known as "Pussywillow Sunday." This is because palms were not available, and pussywillows were blooming at the time.

"The Virgin Mary in the Orthodox view is not regarded as a mediatrix or co-redemptress. She is an intercessor for us, and the content of prayer addressed to her is a request for her intercession. The Orthodox concept of the Church is the basic reason for the invocation of the Theotokos and all the saints. The Militant Church on earth and the Victorious Church in heaven are intimately bound together in love." -Archbishop Dmitri
