The surroundings of Lucca : Garfagnana , delightful lands and unknown

Castelnuovo is the chief town and the green heart of the Garfagnana region, the southern and hilly part of the valley of the river Serchio, enclosed by the Alpi Apuane and the Apennines. It lies about 40 kilometers due norh of Lucca and Versilia. From Castelnuovo it is easy to reach the most interesting touristic resorts of the Val di Serchio, with many trekking itineraries and trails suited for walking, mountain biking or riding.

Garfagnana contains the largest of the Italian National Parks. Garfagnana is within easy reach of many well-known towns such as Castelnuovo, Garfagnana's capital, Lucca, the birthplace of Pucini and Bagni di Lucca which are all well served with road, and rail links. There are airports at Pisa and Florence, which is itself only a couple of hours drive away.  Garfagnana is a dream destination waiting to be discovered.
