Turning a bowling ball into yard art... I like this idea. Don't know where I'd "come upon" an old bowling ball for it, but thinking I could get a cement ball from a craft/hobby store.

Homemade gazing balls. Find old bowling balls from goodwill fill finger holes with Durham's water putty, spray paint the desired color glue little crystals with silicon. Mom uses the flat sided deco beads. (helps if you sand the ball a bit)

Bottle Trees were sometimes placed near the entrance to the house, so the spirits did not enter the house with you. The spirits would become mesmerized by the play of the sunlight through the colors of the glass, and become trapped inside the bottles. The bottles were periodically corked and thrown into the river to wash away the unwanted spirits.
