(Have said this before: the internet and computer access to books and catalogues are amazingly wonderful, but old card catalogues had fascinating, informed, and sometimes erudite comments by librarians.
In this 1935 South Omaha News article, librarian Catherine Beal shared some of the items she found in returned books that were used as bookmarks, including a garter and a strip of bacon. I wonder how they disposed of the bacon?
