Every August residents of Moscow, Russia gather at the Botanical garden of Lomonosov Moscow State University to harvest apples from hundreds of trees.

Visiting Moscow? Here's a botanical garden for you! The Botanical Gardens of the M.V.Lomonosov Moscow State University is one of the oldest botanical institutions of our country (founded in 1706). It is widely known for its scientific and educational activities. During construction of the MSU new premises at the Lenin (now Vorobyovy) Hills, a new University garden was laid out. More that 6000 plant species, varieties and cultivars were planted in a territory of 40 ha.

Iris Innominata The Leach Botanical Garden in Portland Oregon contains several discrete collections with a focus on the flora of Oregon. The native plant collection contains plants that occurred naturally within the borders of the state of Oregon before European settlement anchored by plants that are compatible with the climate and growing conditions of the Garden.

Visit the Alaska Botanical Garden in Achorage and you may encounter a bear! With over 1,100 species of hardy perennials, and 150 native plant species, the Alaska Botanical Garden is the place to experience the abundance of the summer sub-arctic growing season and to learn about flora native to southcentral Alaska.

Visit the Zilker Botanical Garden in Austin Texas to see where dinosaurs roamed.In 1992, amateur paleontologists discovered dinosaurs once roamed the grounds of Zilker Botanical Garden. More than 100 tracks made by six or seven reptiles along with the bones of an ancient turtle were found. The site has been developed as a Cretaceous habitat. Plants in the garden represent the types that existed at the time of the dinosaurs.

Hartman Prehistoric Garden

An oasis in the hustle and bustle of the metropolis, the Berlin Botanic Garden is a plant paradise of world importance with a history of over 300 years. It had a forerunner in the early 17th century that came from the princely kitchen and herbal garden which was located in the pleasure gardens of the Berlin castle. Today the Botanic Garden Berlin-Dahlem comprises an area of 126 acres. About 22,000 different species of plants are cultivated here.

One wouldn't normally consider the Buckingham Palace grounds a botanical garden, but botanists cataloging its plants have discovered a rare orchid on the property. ‘It is quite unusual to find the white helleborine north of the Thames, let alone in the middle of the city in the Queen’s back garden. It shows just how important green spaces are in built-up areas for giving wildlife a refuge.’

Congratulations to Christchurch Botanic Gardens on its 150th anniversary! "Towering majestic trees - many over 120 years old - dominate the gardens, forming a striking backdrop to the extensive themed plant collections and sweeping lawns. A loop of the gently-flowing Avon River, criss-crossed by bridges, encloses a large part of the gardens while the adjacent 164 hectare Hagley Park enhances its natural splendour."

When at Belgium’s botanical garden, hold your nose! There;s a corpse flower in bloom. Washington Post The National Botanic Garden of Belgium is just north of Brussels and has an extensive collection.

    Clemson University explains, "The project called Botanica Caroliniana makes original plant specimens collected in the Carolinas centuries ago by seminal naturalists including Mark Catesby, John and William Bartram, John Lawson and others available through an online database of high-resolution images."

The Jardin d'Essais Botaniques (JEB) of Rabat is a recently-restored 17 hectare botanic garden created by Jean Claude Nicolas Forestier at the beginning of the 20th century. It is located in the heart of historic Rabat - named UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012 - and was conceived as an experimental garden to acclimatize diverse plant species through a partnership with the National Institute of Agronomic Research of Morocco (INRA). It is part of the Med-O-Med botanical gardens network.

Tucked into the downtown Honolulu area, Foster Botanical Garden is the oldest of the Honolulu Botanical Gardens. It displays a mature and impressive collection of tropical plants. Some of the trees in this 14-acre garden were planted in the 1850s.

The Norfolk Botanical Garden has beautiful plants, both living and glass. They also have butterlies under glass. The UC Botanical Garden has lots and lots of plants and wild butterflies but no glass ones.

The Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center in Orange Texas is home to a blooming corpse flower, Amorphophallus titanum. The bloom is only open for a day or so. This is worth a trip if you're near Orange, Texas!

Rare Event: Corpse Flower “Lenore” Update

The University of Rhode Island has a 4.5 acre botanical garden on campus. They have a valuable rare tree collection and serve about 3000 visitors per year, many of them school children participating in the Learning Landscape education program. URI students and professors frequently visit the Garden for classes, studying, picnicking, and relaxing. Garden Tours are held every Tuesday evening June through September and other times by appointment.

This garden, established in 1873 by Professor William James Beal, is the oldest continuously operated university botanical garden of its kind in the United States.
