FDA and CDC published findings from the 2019 National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS). The 2019 data shows over 5 million US youth currently used e-cigarettes, an alarming level for the second year in a row.
“The Real Cost”: A Cost-Effective Approach
FDA’s “The Real Cost” campaign prevented up to 587,000 youth from trying cigarettes, half of whom might have gone on to become established adult smokers. “The Real Cost” campaign will save these kids, their families, and the country more than $53 billion by reducing smoking-related costs like medical care, lost wages, lower productivity, and increased disability – that’s more than $180,000 in savings for each of the up to 293,500 youth that would likely have become an established smoker.
