In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the stories about Yellowstone were so fantastic that many people thought they were the stuff of imagination, not unlike the fictitious world in the newly published Alice in Wonderland books by Lewis Carroll. Because of this similarity, as early as 1871 journalist began referring to what would become the world's first national park as "Wonderland."

Three Bear Lodge lobby is most impressive. I have stayed at the Three Bear Lodge several times. It is a great place to relax while visiting Yellowstone National Park at any time of the year. Blue, Blue Sapphire Pool, Biscuit Basin, Yellowstone National Park
Blue wonder at Biscuit Basin thermal area in Yellowstone Park. Fifty years ago you might see geyser eruptions of 150 feet from this crystal clear pool. Now is mostly calm but sometimes in boils and surges with water energy. Its hot up to 200 degrees farenheit. Underneanth the park geologic forces are busy at it sits a a giant volcanic caldera that is active but hasnt bown up for a few hundred thousand years.
