Aeneas, Hercules and Venus, the goddess of love and beauty. These characters that myth has gathered around the ancient village of Erice mark the spirit of a mountain rich in history and legends. It majestically rises above Trapani, in the west corner of Sicily island. There is an old castle on the top of this mountain. At first, it was a temple dedicated to the goddess Venus. Millennia have only scratched the patina of myth.
Cofano mountain is a promontory of limestone, which reaches 659 meters in height. It stands solo and magnificent with its characteristic triangular shape above the sea along the coast from Trapani (Sicily, Italy) to San Vito Lo Capo, in the town of Custonaci. In spite of its limited size surface it presents an important value for its natural and anthropological aspects. On 25 july 1997 the Reserve was created.
