Teaching geography? Make Pumpkin Globes! - Tape down the continents and paint the pumpkin blue. The next day, remove the continents and color them in green with marker. Put two rubber bands around the pumpkin to represent the equator and voila, Pumpkin Globe!
Hands on geography!! The teacher is reviewing latitude, longitude, hemispheres, continent and ocean names and cardinal/intermediate directions. Students use yarn for the Prime Meridian and Equator, and index cards with the names for the oceans. Then the class uses unifix cubes to mark all the spots they are responsible for being able to locate.
Regions of the United States. This is a 2nd grade geography activity. Students will label/match the regions of the United States. Students will have the option of matching the cut out regions or using written labels to label the five regions of the United States on a map provided. This activity practices a skill in the Illinois State Social Studies Standard 17.A.1a. Identify physical characteristics of places, both locals and global
