this is a great idea...students sign out when they leave the classroom; can also have magnetic pictures/words for nurse, bathroom, etc. so students can put it beside their name so you know exactly where they are!

Holy cow. Tons. We do many stories from around the world to show that the hero's journey layout applies so any of them.

Cinderella, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, The Tale of Perseus (so fun!), A Worn Path, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, and then we break them into groups and each group gets assigned another story and they have to map the hero's journey and figure out how they connect with the other stories we've read. All together they read 5-6 and then we move into Catcher and they track Holden's journey through New York City.

This guy has a really interesting approach to teaching AP English 11. I love the idea of using colored markers for notes. He's also against homework and uses a workshop approach to teach writing.
