Muslin summer dress, ca. 1864 (with reproduction sash, petticoat and camisole). Made from block-printed muslin. The whole dress is a lightweight one for summer, consisting of a long-sleeved bodice and skirt. Dye tests indicate that the stars may have been printed with ultramarine blue, a pigment based colour used in the 1850s. Museum of London via The Costumer's Manifesto
