Ribbons spewing from the center of braided side buns over each ear - the low-crown, straw hat on her lap is fab and it makes me wonder if she wore her hair like that to hold up the hat when on her head...?

Bow and sleeve trim. Silk dress. Note the size and length of the bow which appears to be not tied in a knot but held in place with a small broach, the buttons and spacing on the dress as well as they appear to be shell, the belt.

Muslin summer dress, ca. 1864 (with reproduction sash, petticoat and camisole). Made from block-printed muslin. The whole dress is a lightweight one for summer, consisting of a long-sleeved bodice and skirt. Dye tests indicate that the stars may have been printed with ultramarine blue, a pigment based colour used in the 1850s. Museum of London via The Costumer's Manifesto
