Food Chain Collage

This was a collaborative project I did with one of the Science teachers at my school. He was teaching his kids about food chains and wanted an art project to go along with it. He found THIS image via Pinterest as initial inspiration for the project. UPDATE: The poster was designed by art director Dhanashri Ubhayakar. I turned the digital image into a collage project using construction paper. I used 12 x 18" construction paper. Have a background colour (in my case, turquoise). Then start with…

Friday Art Feature - I Am ...

We had our first official art class of the year this week. I decided to start off with an easy one so everyone could feel successful with their project. And the final results couldn't be more beautiful in our classroom! I think I may be a tad OCD - that empty space in the bottom is driving me crazy!!! I have 23 students this year, so with room for 24 spots on our blackboard, I also plan on making an art project each time we do one. Unfortunately, I am STILL waiting on one student to finish…

Procedures and student succes criteria in choice-based art!

Student success criteria and clear expectations are a major focus for my professional goals this year, I want to share some of the work I done so far. Capturing ideas and planning are the first two steps in the artistic process. This entire wall will be filled with the entire process. Students will be able to look to the wall to 1. know what they should be doing at each step 2. understand what the work looks like 3. understand how the work should impact their project 4. justify the work that…

shine like a diamond.

We are off and running at Zamo! As usual, I am starting the school year off with a collaborative project that is low stress and high impact. a little background- during the first week I meet with classes for 30 minute mini lessons. This allows me to review art room rules and procedures and to get students creating right away. Kids end up creating for about 20 minutes. This lesson always emphasizes unity and variety in both art and our school community and beyond. I make a point of…
