This is a picture of the black gelding pacer, Black Slipper. Trainer Hugh Ports kept the horse fit by jogging in a sleigh during the winter of 1902. Black Slipper raced at the 1902 Wayne County Fair (Wooster, Ohio) in the 2:22 Pace going for a purse of $ 250. Charlie Ports raced Black Slipper four heats where he finished 5 5 2 3 and was placed sixth overall out of the seven horses in the race. Times for the four heats were 2:22, 2:24 1/2, 2:23 1/2, 2:26 1/2.
This is a circa 1910 picture of Earl (Jim) Strock at the Wayne County fairgrounds in Wooster, Ohio with his sorrel gelding pacer, Bobby Pierce. The horse raced at the 1910 Wa. Co. Fair in a 2:21 Pace going for a purse of $ 300 where he finished 2nd in the four horse field. Bobby Pierce raced again at the 1911 Wa. Co. Fair in a 2:20 Pace and won 3 out of the four heats raced that day. Times for the four heats were 2:20 1/4, 2:21 1/4, 2:22, 2:22.
