From a distant point of view, I like the idea of the layout of this building and the location. It has the traditional roofing style along with general building look but what I particularly like is that I can picture my character running along the roof top, possibly while chasing someone. Therefore this is something I could consider using within my action scenes within my animation.
I also wanted to look at the surroundings of the traditional buildings and came across this. I like how the odd shaped rocks lead up to the building and highlight the rural and traditional Japanese feel, creating the idea of a Zen garden. Therefore I will consider this exterior accessory when creating the outer area of my background.
This is a closer look at the front of a traditional house in Japan. From this, I can get a closer look at the front porch area and use it as more in depth reference material wen developing houses for my background.
This is the inside of a traditional Japanese home, possibly one in a more rural landscape. I have taken note of the tatami mats and how everything seems very symmetrical and has a very neutral colour scheme. Therefore to maintain the traditional feeling I am going for, I will also consider this if I have to do any interiors.

This building appears to be a shrine and has inspired me to perhaps use the idea of a shrine as the home of the female protagonist since she is more spiritual based. I also really like the bright reds hat are used and will possibly use similar colours in my colour scheme. I will possibly use a limited colour palette for a specific effect.
Another tea house design although in a very basic break down. I can use this as a reference when developing my own buildings for the background of my animation. This is a more front based view of one also so I can get a closer look at some of the details during the development process.
This is the back of a traditional Japanese farmhouse. This has a more rural feel to it than the other buildings I have looked at and would possibly be more applicable in a historical context if I were to apply that to my animation. However, I do quite like the decorations such as those dangling from the roof and will potentially use the idea when developing buildings.
I chose this to use as reference material for outer screens on buildings, and possibly the castle that I am intending on creating. The way they are represented in this image, they are surrounding a garden. This has possibly inspired me to create the final battle scene in a place like this to fully celebrate the traditional Japanese features.
Japanese architecture, black matte traditional floor in traditional style house. This could possibly be used as an entry way within a building or even a viewing room from the castle that I am considering creating for my villains quarters.
This is another demonstration of the traditional Japanese building style but in a different format. This is a tower like building with several sections split by roofs. Therefore when considering the shape of my buildings I should also consider splitting them into sections such as this.
So rich and unique is traditional Japanese architecture that it's hard to improve upon. From a thatched roof farmhouse occupied by a Zen priest to Tadao Ando's experimental 4X4 House, Shigeru Ban's conceptual Shutter House, and a homage to bamboo in the form of a home, this book traverses the multifaceted landscape of Japanese living today.
