Did you know the Mountain Pygmy-possum is Australia's only hibernating marsupial? When the weather gets cooler, they start curling into balls, ready to hibernate for up to seven months. With less than 2,000 Mountain Pygmy-possums thought to be left in the wild, Zoos Victoria is working on a captive breeding program to help recover this critically endangered species. http://www.zoo.org.au/healesville/animals/mountain-pygmy-possum

Listed as Critically Endangered, this Southern Bent-wing Bat is increasingly under threat by human disturbance of roosting caves and foraging habitat. Zoos Victoria is committed to securing a future for the Southern Bent-wing Bat. We are currently investigating the role we can play in improving the long-term viability of a self-sustaining wild population of this species.
